" VANDEMATRAM " - Some of our Initiatives

PRERNA – ek pahal ek aasha (An NGO) is a Social Welfare Initiative of H.L Gupta Education & Social Welfare Trust (Regd) Ghaziabad INDIA [A Non – Profit,Non-Religious,Non Sectarian and Non discriminatory charitable Trust Registered under Indian Registration Trust Act 1882.] It was formed with the clear Vision to organize / participate in social welfare programmes to help the desperately Poor & Underprivileged.

Our Initiatives –

1. PROJECT ARPAN
-A unique resource mobilization initiative providing clothes and basic amenities to millions in the far flung areas by turning one’s wastage in to resource for another.Initiated in 2007 with just 44 clothes,we now send / Distribute over 2000 kgs of material every month . we are working towards making clothing a matter of concern like the other two basic needs .It is only highlighted during disasters though most of India doesn’t need the disaster to be helped.ARPAN channelises vital resources lying underutilized in urban households,to rural India. The effort goes beyond the realm of ‘Charity’ and plays a crucial role in the development process.
It is a noble project to help / support desperately Poor ,ignored & underprivileged section of our society irrespective of Caste, creed, colour, sex and religion. The project also emphasis on helping people (RAHAT) suffering from natural calamities like Flood ,Earthquakes etc - Relief efforts for Disaster hit people. The emphasis is on the most neglected disasters like people dying of cold in winters & annual floods in Assam,Bihar & West Bengal.

2. PROJECT BACHPAN - Supports thousands of rural & slum schools by turning the wastage of urban School children into resource for them. The idea is to sensitise urban students and their parents about the needs of their less fortunate counterparts. The target is to support 5000 children in the initial phase itself by channelising material like stationary, notebooks, toys, story books, water bottles, lunchboxes old books ,uniforms, shoes, school bags, etc It’s a unique solution to a problem faced by thousands of remote village & slum schools, that of lack of infrastructure and basic facilities critical for a child to experience schooling. ‘BACHPAN’ is a practical, cost effective and easily replicable concept, based on prevalent practices in urban schools.

3. RAGS To PADS Prerna Ek Pahal Ek Aasha’s latest Project to utlize donated cotton clothing for creating sanitary napkins is based on the knowledge that many woman and hence their families – suffer major health consequences on account of using unhygienic cloth during menstruating days .This can lead to infections which can cause multi - organ Failure ,infertility and in certain circumstances cervical cancer. The consequences can also be multifold,as an infection can have an effect not only on the lives of her children born and unborn. The situation in India is not one to be taken lightly ;indeed India has one of the highest infant and mortality rates in the world.Since menstruation is considered to be ‘pollution’women use the dirtiest cloth in the house – cloth that has been used to clean the floors, the bathrooms. And because it is imperative that the cloth be hidden from the neighbours,it does not ever see the light of the day.

Furthermore , there are usually 2 or 3 women in a household all using the same cloth” And this context of shame ,of extreme health – risks ,we often overlook this reality and give them lectures on reproductive health and maternity care.We still have a long way to go ,but providing some clean cloth is a good first step”. A woman uses a piece of blouse and died of tetanus due to hook inside .
Prerna Ek Pahal Ek Aasha is providing clean cloth cloth / napkins to rural / slum woman and is actively campaigning in rural & urban India to generate awareness in this taboo issue.
